The first bottles of wines from the new Coteaux Bourguignon appellation will be launched in Spring 2012. The appellation Coteaux Bourguignon was created in November 2011 and should replace that of the Burgundy Grand Ordinaire.
"We are very pleased that this name was born, after months of work," says Pierre-Henry Gagey, President of the Bureau Interprofessional des Vins de Bourgogne (BIVB) and the Coteaux de Bourgogne Commission, before continuing, "its characteristics will allow it to address a new class of consumers seeking to discover the world of Burgundy, without neglecting confirmed Burgundy-consumers that might be curious of this new appellation. This is not just a change in names, but a new product with an unprecedented position, a kind of gateway to Burgundy wines, especially for new consumers.
The prodcers and the trade will be expected work this appellation proudly, while they tended to use Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire as a spillway.
Particular attention will be given to qualitative monitoring. Indeed, the whole wine industry acknowledges the obligation not to disappoint the whole sector by joing efforts to ensure the quality control of the appellation. "
